On 27 June 2015, Hagelin, slated to become a restricted free agent on 1 July, was traded along with two draft picks to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Emerson Etem and a second-round selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, which New York used to pick Ryan Gropp. He was later signed to a four-year contract with the Ducks on 14 August 2015. In the 2015–16 season, Hagelin struggled with his new club, failing to reproduce his scoring presence from his tenure with the Rangers. With 12 points in 43 games, Hagelin was traded by the Ducks to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward David Perron and defenceman Adam Clendening on 16 January 2016.
Hagelin wore this home set jersey from November 30th through January 15th. He suited up for 10 games, scoring 1 goal and adding 4 assists. He logged 4 penalty minutes and held a plus 4 rating. This was The last Ducks jersey that Hagelin wore before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers signed Hagelin to a professional contract after Michigan lost the 2011 NCAA final game, where he joined the Rangers' then-American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Connecticut Whale, for the 2011 Calder Cup playoffs. He then began the subsequent 2011–12 season playing for the Whale.
Hagelin made his NHL debut against the Washington Capitals on 25 November 2011, registering an assist on a goal by Brian Boyle for his first NHL point. Hagelin then scored his first career NHL goal the next day against goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky of the Philadelphia Flyers.
After Adam Henrique of the New Jersey Devils pulled out of the 2012 NHL All-Star Rookie Showcase due to injury, Hagelin took his spot and was slated to take part in the Fastest Skater challenge during the Skills Competition, ultimately winning the competition after beating Ottawa Senators rookie Colin Greening with the fastest final round time ever recorded.
Carl Hagelin wore this home set 3 jersey during his rookie year. He put up 1 goal and 2 assists while wearing this home style jersey.

After a rocky start to the 2018-19 season, the Penguins traded Carl Hagelin to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Tanner Pearson. Hagelin soon suffered a knee injury with the Kings, limiting his play to only twenty-two games. The Kings moved Hagelin at the trade deadline for a draft pick. After joining the Capitals, Hagelin resumed his normal "post Christmas" self. He moved up and down the lineup playing big minutes on the penalty kill as well as playing on the top three lines.
Hagelin wore this red set 2 jersey for one game before the Caps switched to their set 3 uniforms. This jersey was worn on February 26, 2019 vs the Ottawa Senators. Hagelin recorded four shouts on goal in 12:37 of ice time. This was Hagelin's first red set jersey as a Capital. The jersey is registered into the MeiGray Game Worn Authentication Program as MGG # R 07376.

* - Denotes Stanley Cup Playoff Game
Carl Hagelin found a home in Washington after being dealt by the Los Angeles Kings prior to the trade deadline. Hags was dealt to the Kings earlier in the season from Pittsburgh, a move in which Pittsburgh later came to regret. The Penguins tried to reacquire Hagelin, but due to the retained salary and a stipulation in the CBA, the Penguins were not permitted to reacquire Hags.
Hagelin wore this road set 3 jersey for the first time on March 12th, in his first trip back to Pittsburgh where he was remembered with a short tribute video. Hagelin played eleven games in this set 3 jersey, including three playoff games. He recorded four assists and a plus two rating during that span of games. The Capitals were eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The jersey is registered into the MeiGray Game Worn Authentication Program as MGG # R 07142.
