Sidney Crosby was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins 1st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The young phenom broke into the league during the 2005-06 season. He put up 102 points in his rookie campaign, finishing second for the Calder Trophy behind Washington's Alex Ovechkin.
The very next season, Crosby scored 120 points, his best single season to date. He had his first taste of playoff hockey that season. The Penguins lost if the first round to the eventual Eastern Conference Champion Ottawa Senators. Soon after their defeat, on May 31, 2007, the Penguins named Sidney Crosby the new captain of the team. Since then, Crosby has won three Stanley Cup Championships (2009, 2016, 2017).
Sidney Crosby wore this road set 2 jersey from during the regular season, from January 16th through the end of the regular season on March 10th. The season ended abruptly on March 12th due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Because of this, the Penguins continued to wear their set 2 jerseys into the Stanley Cup Playoffs once play resumed.
During the regular season, Crosby scored five goals and added three assists in thirteen games. He also logged eight penalty minutes along with a minus twelve rating.
This road jersey was also worn during the Stanley Cup Qualifier round against the Montreal Canadiens. The Penguins lost in four games to the Canadiens. On August 5th, Crosby had an assist on Hornqvist's goal, moving him past Doug Gilmour and Joe Sakic into eighth place in NHL postseason points with 189 (68 goals, 121 assists) in 167 games.
As many know, Crosby is extremely superstitious. He wears number 87 due to the fact that his birthday fell on 8/7/87. Another unique aspect of this jersey is that Sid wore it during game action on August 7, his birthday. It is the only time in his career that he has played in an NHL game on his birthday. The jersey features Crosby's customizations including sleeve extensions and a squared off bottom hem.
